  1.      STARTUP NOTES.
  2.  
  3.      DXHUNTER: advanced DX cluster management for PC and TNC (no BAYCOM).
  4.  
  5.      1) Installation.
  6.      Complete installation requires about 2 MB free space onto Hard Disk.
  7.      To  install  type  INSTALL  then  press Enter.  You  can  specify  the
  8.      installation  directory (C:\DXHUNTER default) where you want the SW to
  9.      be installed.
  10.      Once   you've  installed  you'll  have  to  add  C:\DXHUNTER\LIB   (or
  11.      YOURPATH\LIB, if you installed to a different path) to the PATH string
  12.      of  your  AUTOEXEC.BAT  file,  then  reboot PC  to  make  this  change
  13.      effective.

  16.      MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF YOUR FLOPPY (Diskcopy A: A:).

  18.      ***WARNING  !!! If you operate a Kantronics TNC, first of all edit the
  19.      file named COMMANDS.INI and change the CS parameter into S.
  20.  
  21.      2)  FIRST  CONFIGURATION.  To  configure DXHUNTER,  go  into  DXHUNTER
  22.      directory,  type  menu  and  choose CONFIG;  doing  so,  you'll  start
  23.      configuration  program, made of 4 pages; now let's focus our attention
  24.      on the 1st page.
  25.      Some  parameters  may be directly typed; this happens when  cursor  is
  26.      active into the current cell; some other parameters have a choice set,
  27.      this  means that you can change the value by simply pressing the arrow
  28.      keys.  At  this step, give correct value to  communication  parameters
  29.      such  as communication port (COM1.. COM8) data speed, parity and  stop
  30.      bits.  Another important parameter to set is the connection string; to
  31.      do  it,  select the second line (with Up Dn arrow keys) then type  the
  32.      whole  command  string you normally use to connect to  PACKET  CLUSTER
  33.      (ex.  CONNECT  CLSTR-6,  where  CLSTR-6 is the  name  of  your  PACKET
  34.      CLUSTER).
  35.      You  can specify multistep connection using the special character  "#"
  36.      as  separation  between close fields ex.  CONNECT  DIGIPEATER1#CONNECT
  37.      DIGIPEATER2#CONNECT DIGIPEATER 3#CONNECT CLSTR-6 VIA NODE. Don't worry
  38.      if  the  edit cell seems to be narrow, you have up to  500  characters
  39.      capacity  (the cell shifts!). Once you've edited the whole  connection
  40.      string,  check if it's correct, shifting on it, with left/right  arrow
  41.      keys.
  42.      With  the same technique you can set initialzation/end commands on the
  43.      first  line,  considering that you must separate single commands  with
  44.      "#"  and  you can specify end session commands with the character  "!"
  45.      ex.:
  46.      CMD1  # CMD2 ! CMD3 # CMD4; in this exmple CMD1 and CMD2 are issued at
  47.      start, CMD3 and CMD4 at end.

  49.      WARNING  !!!  if  your modem is a PK232 or PK88 or  similar,  and  you
  50.      normally  use the program PC-PAKRATT, or any other program working  in
  51.      HOST  MODE,  consider that DXHUNTER doesn't work in host mode; so,  to
  52.      use  it  alternatively with PC-PAKRATT, without restarting the  modem,
  53.      you must specify, as first initialization command, the string ^AOHON^W
  54.      in  caps letters (showed as OHON) followed by a # and by the command
  55.      PACKET.  When you exit DXHUNTER, if you want to use PC-PAKRATT, again,
  56.      set HOST ON as final command.
  57.      Ex. OHON # PACKET # MYCALL... ! HOST ON (HOST ON will be issued only
  58.      at exit because of the "!".

  60.      WARNING  !!! if your modem is a PK232 or PK88 or similar and you don't
  61.

  64.      use  a  backup  battery, put one or more "*" characters  at  the  very
  65.      beginning of the initialization string; ex. *+*+*+#MYCALL IK4VYX...
  66.      The "+" character means a one second pause.
  67.  
  68.      WARNING  !!!  if your modem supports the EXPert commands,  (PK900)  be
  69.      sure  that EXPert is set to ON and BBSmsgs to OFF; (you can specify it
  70.      in initialization string:
  71.      EXP ON#BBS OFF#MYCALL IK4VYX...).

  73.      WARNING  !!!  if the TNC continuously displays some  strange  messages
  74.      such  as "Z stream: link state is disconnected", see file PCMODEM.TXT,
  75.      where this problem is discussed.

  77.      3)  FIRST  START OF DXHUNT. Now you're ready to start DXHUNT; be  sure
  78.      that your modem is switched on, in packet mode, and not in HOST MODE.
  79.      Start  menu,  then choose DX HUNTER and press Enter. If everything  is
  80.      OK,  after  a certain time, DXHUNT would have to tell you that  PACKET
  81.      CLUSTER  is not connected. If you're not able to reach this step,  and
  82.      you  don't fall into any case previously described, check with another
  83.      terminal   program   that  SENDpac=13  ($0D  or   Ctrl-M)   and   that
  84.      COMmand=03($03 or Ctrl-C). If problem persists, raise the value of 7th
  85.      and  8th  parameters into file COMMANDS.INI; anyway for this  kind  of
  86.      problems   see  file  PCMODEM.TXT  into  DOC  subdirectory,   or   see
  87.      TROUBLES.TXT section).
  88.      Finally  if  you  use a 3 wires cable (RX TX GND), set  XON/XOFF  flow
  89.      control to YES in config: you'll avoid data loss.
  90.      If  your  cable  is complete, a hardware flow control  is  recommended
  91.      (setting USE RTS/CTS lines to YES in CONFIG).

  93.      In  addition  to  a  few initialization commands  directly  edited  in
  94.      CONFIG,  you  can  also specify a complete configuration  command  set
  95.      (useful if modem's backup battery is discharged).
  96.      Commands  must be listed into an ASCII file, then path and command set
  97.      file name must be specified in COMMANDS.INI (6th parameter).

  100.      To  complete the configuration, youll'have to start DXMAP and manually
  101.      map your DXCC situation into each country, band and mode.
  102.      This  operation  is  very simple, but sometimes annoying. If  you  use
  103.      certain  logs,  this  operation  could be automatic  and  quick!  (see
  104.      CONVERT.TXT for a list of supported logs).
